Week 3 - Camera Use - Cropping and Composition - Research

Diane Arbus

Born March 14 1923

Died July 26 1971

She was an American photographer and writer for photographs of people because she came from America. Thirty years since she did the underground scene.
She photographed in a confrontational style, her subjects looking directly at the camera. She developed a style of portraiture.

I've looked at the book called Photography, the 50 most influential photographers of all times, published in 2009. Page 62 to 63.

In this photo she cropped out the persons body. It is a close crop into the persons face. The persons head is in the middle.

It is a close up crop of a baby's face. The baby looks sad.

All of her photos are all in black and white and they are square. She thought about the composition.

Bernd and Hilla Becher

Bernd Becher was Born August 20 1931. He Died June 22 2007.

Hilla was born 1934 and lives in Dusseldorf.

Bernd and Hella Becher were  German photographers because they came from Germany.

This is a photo of two of these photographers.

They took photos of architecture. The photos are technically perfect. They took photos of the buildings which are similar.

They have rules so the photos all look similar. Centred, black and white, formal photographs on a straight on angle.

I've looked at the book called 20th Century Photography. Published in 1996. Page 50 to 53.

Framework houses, 1959-73
