Papakura Gallery – Presentation exercise – Emil McAvoy

What is this show about? 

A Red Earth Reconnaissance Emil McAvoy, survey of the Papakura region centred around the Papakura Art Gallery. 

How many photos are in this show? 

Seventeen photos. 

 How much space is there between each photo? 

Five inches.

How does this affect your viewing of the work? 
It allows me to see each Photo differently in the Papakura Art gallery. 

What size/s are these photos?
A4 and A3

How does this affect your viewing of the work?

The drawings were A4

What presentation method has been used?
The photos were used in box framing and they had lots of glass to protect them. 

How does this affect your viewing of the work? 
I've also enjoyed the work and how it was neat and presentable. It was simple but effective. 

Are there any aspects of this presentation you would use when presenting your Portfolio this term and if so what are they?
Framing and I really want a lot of white space placing my photos in the centre of the frame. I'm just going to print at A4 colour.

Term 2 - Week 3 - Portfolio - Mirror Photos

F25 1/40 ISO 6400

I've taken this photo of a mirror in the dining room. In the mirror I can see one curtain and one door. I can only see one cold colour which is blue. The background is overexposed.

In camera raw I've put the tint up to +29, the exposure up to +0.65, the contrast down to -14 and the shadows up to +22.

I've taken this photo of a mirror in the laundry. In the mirror I see windows, toilet paper and some cupboards and the toilet. This photo is a bit dark. I like the pattern on the wall.




In camera raw I've put the exposure up to +0.90 and the tint up to +25 so I can see the difference between the before and after.

I've taken this photo of a mirror in the bedroom. In the mirror I see curtains, a painting and some clothing. I see Hot colours which are red, orange and yellow.



In camera raw I've put the tint up to +9, the exposure up to +1.05, the contrast up to +14 and the shadows up to +27 so I can see the difference between the before and after.





F25 1/60 ISO 6400

I've taken this photo of a mirror in an eye place in Mount Eden. Some pairs of glasses are cropped. In the mirror I can see some other pairs eye glasses. I also see some eye lenses.



In camera raw I've put the tint up to +8, the exposure up to +0.70, the contrast up to +12 and the shadows up to +8.

Peoples Park is a suite of photographs captured at dawn in and around the Peoples Park, the site of the Harbourview Sculpture Trail.

 The grass is light green and the trees are dark green. I also see the rule of thirds. The fore ground is sharp and the back ground is blurry.

bigwoods is a photo essay published in the 'Dendromaniac', Enjoy Public Art Gallery's 2015 issue of its online Occasional Journal. 

Emil McAvoy has taken this photo at big woods in black and white but I wish she had taken it in colour. I see repetition, leading lines, cropping, close up, shape and also contrast which is between the light and dark.

The meaning of the Māori name Te Atatū is “The Dawn”. Dawn is known as a transitional moment between states of consciousness, and of light emerging from darkness. Daybreak is steeped in positive mystical associations across cultures and civilisations. Historical narratives speak of dawn as a signal of new knowledge or wisdom becoming evident in the mind.

As a transitional zone between suburban development and native coastal flora and fauna, the trail site has an important environmental function. Peoples Parkcelebrates the ecological, social and historical value of this place, while employing the fabricated and fantastical properties of photography.

Photographically reframing its existing natural forms, found objects and human interventions, Peoples Park encourages audiences to reimagine the site and consider its wider significance and poetic potential.

He has only taken one photo of the prickly plants, a couple of photo of reflection through the water, a couple of photo of the grass and a couple of photos of the flowers. He zooms in on the branches which are in the trees. He also likes shadow. He likes looking for texture.
