Week 4 - Camera Use - Texture and Positive/Negative Space - Research

Haru Sameshima

http://www.mcnamara.co.nz/Sameshima.htm

He was born in 1958 in Shizuoka City, Japan. He immigrated to New Zealand in 1973.

I think he likes to take photos of  objects and Still Life. He also takes photos of old buildings.

He used rule of thirds to show negative space on the top third.

This is a Still Life photo that was in a studio. The texture of the bottles look very smooth and there is negative space in the foreground and the background.

Karl Blossfeldt

He was born in 1865 in Germany and died in 1932.

He took photos of plants in black and white. They have a nice plain background. I think they could have been taken in a studio.
He made an archive of photographs of living plants for educational purposes.

I've looked at the book called 20th Centry Photography. Published in 1996. Page 63.

I can see the texture of the plants. There is a plain background which has the negative space.

The stem is a half circle. There is a plain background with negative space and the foreground has the object which is in positive space.
